TURBULENT
SUPERFLUSHER®
The DRAIS
Turbulent SuperFlusher® is a batch, heavy-duty horizontal mixer.
It is designed to properly mix and knead press cake providing the
energy to drive the water from the press cake. Additionally, the
Turbulent SuperFlusher® mixing paddles impart the necessary shear
for dispersion and drying of the press cake. Finally, Turbulent
SuperFlusher® allows easy standardization of the dispersion and
easy product discharge.
Ideally,
it is desirable to have a flushing system that easily adapts to
the constant changing conditions found in most pigment press cakes.
Pigment lots change since pigment is generally produced in batches
from various types of filter presses. At the same time the percent
of solids varies with the different types and colors of pigments.
The most
advanced flushing system; Drais Turbulent SuperFlusher® is easily
adjusted by the operator and requires minimal power to operate.
Flushing cycles are now as short as possible from start to finish,
including standardization and pack out in one production shift.

Most companies
are currently having a lot of problems including high maintenance
cost on their existing units, longer vacuum and longer overall processing
times, unsafe processing conditions, poor temperature control and
not being fully automated. Drais Turbulent SuperFlusher® can overcome
all these problems.
Typical
Advantages of using DRAIS Turbulent SuperFlusher®:
- Due to fast product
movement in Turbulent SuperFlusher® washing and vacuum steps can
be achieved in a shorter time.
- Compounding of the
mass is a simple task as product moves into all three directions:
Three dimensional movement of the product is achieved through
centrifugal force, which pushes the product away from the shaft
and blade design, which pushes the product through the center
of the vessel. Therefore small pieces can easily be compounded
back into the mass.
- Close tolerance design
between the tip of the blades and the wall of the chamber provides
for a superior shear.
- High differential
speed between tip of the paddles and walls results in better dispersion
quality. (This feature, in fact, makes it possible to get better
dispersion as the pigment particles squeezed in between and then
released.)
- The product pushed
towards the walls and gets in touch with the jacket more often
which gives superior heat transfer capability.
- Unlike conventional
processing systems which might vary in processing times for the
same batch sizes, Drais Turbulent SuperFlusher® maintain the same
short cycle time which result in consistent product quality.
- With Drais Turbulent
SuperFlusher®, it is possible to run the shaft both ways: On the
forward position, the product is pushed towards the center whereas
when it is run at the opposite direction, the product is pushed
towards sidewalls, which result in better water extraction from
the compound.
- Special design of
the blades, which pushes the product through the center, provides
for complete discharge of the flusher content.
